Absztrakt: A fenntarthatóság egyre nagyobb szerepet játszik a turisztikai desztinációk életében.
Abstract: Sustainability has gained significant importance in case of tourist destinations. Se-
veral tourism organizations have established a set of indicators to support destinations on the way to becoming sustainable. These sustainable tourism indicators play important role in monitoring and evaluating the different sustainable initiatives. The various indicators can be widely used in planning and decision-making processes and support destinations to assess their sustainability efforts. Besides the tools developed by tourism organizations, national governments and tourism offices have also established their own certifications. One of these certifications is the Austrian EcoLabel which guides not only tourism businesses, but also destinations to promote sustainability.
The aim of this study is to present the destination-specific elements of the Austrian EcoLabel, highlighting indicators that can also promote sustainable initiatives of domestic destinations. Based on the Austrian Ecolabel standards (management, socio-economics, environment and climate protection, biodiversity, nature and landscape conservation, mobility and culture), the research presents a well-structured set of criteria for a comprehensive assessment of a destination’s sustainability efforts.
